You want to buy a computer but are unsure of what you want? Or looking to upgrade and exploring the opportunities that other types of computer systems can offer? We’ve all been there. Hopefully, by the end of this article, you will conclude that Apple’s Mac may be for you!
We’re specifically looking at the iMac Computer system and not the MacBook, that’s a topic for another day. This article is going to be discussing both the iMac and the iMac Pro computers, and showcasing why you should be using one!
The mac is designed and produced by Apple, an American technology company, you may have heard of them! The Mac uses its own operating system called the macOS and likes to separate itself from the traditional PC which runs operating systems such as Windows or Linux, as the Mac is a part of the Apple ecosystem.
Here are 11 reasons why you should be using a Mac:
1. Simple and easy to use
Everybody likes a stress free environment, and the Mac is perfect for this, it brings all of the necessities any computer user would need without any time-wasting configuration or burying your head in forums looking how to change certain things, they are all extremely straightforward and easy to learn in Mac’s settings panel, as well as the launchpad on the dock, containing a simple way to access all of your programs and applications installed.
2. Streamlined user experience
There’s no excuse for a burdensome operating system, it affects your workflow and valuable time. Fortunately, the Mac experience is fully streamlined to save you any effort in managing and maintaining your system.
Updates are simple and provided directly to you by Apple, as well as drivers and other hardware factors being irrelevant due to Apple’s integrated components. And if you ever happen to have any issues, Apple has an extremely helpful and dedicated support service that will help you immediately with any software or hardware concerns or issues you may have, making it one of the most streamlined and refined platforms available.
3. Perfect for if you are in the Apple ecosystem
The Apple Ecosystem is a huge reason why many people love Apple products, as anything from iPhones, iPads, AirPods, MacBooks, Macs, and Mac Pros all are integrated to work seamlessly with each other, allowing you to utilise all of the devices together, such as copying and pasting between devices, using iPads as additional monitors for your Mac, and taking & managing calls on your iPhone with your iMac.
4. Exclusive Apple Software
Many apps that can only be found on Apple products are included with the Mac, some of which could be especially useful for people with certain careers, such as Garage Band. The Apple App store also comes included with macOS, allowing you to download all of your favourite apps! Essential apps are also included, like the fan favourite Apple Pages, Numbers, and Apple Notes, as well as everybody’s favourite search engine; Safari! Final Cut Pro is also available for purchase on Apple devices only, so if video editing is your thing, you’d want to think about getting a Mac!
These are all programs you can’t get anywhere else without emulating them, but they all work seamlessly and more efficiently on the Apple Mac.
5. Crystal-Clear Display
The 27” iMacs have a 5K Retina display, with support for 1 billion colours, due to its wide colour (P3) and 500 nits brightness. If you don’t know what these terms mean (I don’t blame you), it means you never need to worry about missing out on getting the best display experience from a Mac, and for all of you who love your colours, this is perfect for you, and for a bit of extra money, you can include a Nano-Texture glass option to fully reduce glare to a minimum.
6. Great for Artists
If you’re someone who needs to create digital content on your computer, whether it be graphic design, animation, photography, or any other type of content production – the iMac or iMac Pro may be perfect for you. There’s a reason why so many design studios are using the iMac as their main workstation, due to the reasons discussed above such as the exclusive Apple software and production programs that beats most of the competition out there! The display, as mentioned previously, is also great for any of you digital artists wanting to perfect your productions.
7. Better Security
The security of the Mac is extremely important to Apple and they make sure that no viruses are going to get by their air-tight, built-in antivirus, compared to operating systems like Windows, which is pretty decent as of now, however, the popularity of Windows leads to more viruses being targeted towards it, making the Mac a safer machine as there aren’t too many viruses out there for it.
8. The Magic Mouse
The Magic Mouse is an incredible and innovative piece of technology that makes everyday use of the Mac that much smoother, with its seamless integration and gestures, as well as the ability to scroll in any direction you wish, is also incredibly useful for design software such as the Adobe Suite, if you need to quickly and easily navigate the program. While standard desktop PCs like Windows can support side-scrolling, this requires a specific type of mouse that is not well integrated into the operating system, like Apple’s Magic Mouse 2.
9. It’s Stylish!
It’s like what they say “Style is the answer to everything”, and this remains true with your own office setup! No one wants an obnoxious, weirdly shaped computer case sandwiched behind 2 ugly monitors sat on their desk. With the iMac you can’t go wrong, it’s minimalistic style, paired with the sleek design of the Magic Mouse and the Magic Keyboard, it’ll make even the dingiest places sparkle with excellence. Not to mention the high-quality materials with the brushed stainless steel build, making it not only stylish but also durable. Plus, its greyscale colour scheme allows it to work well in any room environment with any colour combination.
10. Cutting Edge Components
This one mainly applies to the iMac Pro and can get rather pricey, but if you’re willing to pay the large sum, you can get some seriously extreme performance to power through any work you need. With up to 28 cores, DDR4 ECC memory, and the capacity for four AMD Radeon GPUs, you can build a serious beast if you need it, although your wallet may hurt.
11. High Resale Value
Another blessing with the Mac is that if you ever wish to upgrade or decide you don’t want it, the resale value is decent, allowing you to get some of your money back for whatever you’re getting next. The reason for this is simple, they’re built to last, so any Macs that may be a few years old will be fine to continue using for the future.
The Negatives
While there are so many reasons why you should get a Mac, there a few limiting factors that you may need to consider, such as the main one;
Price
Macs are not at all cheap when compared to a standard Windows Desktop PC, and neither are the upgrades you can add for additional costs, however, if the price is not stopping you, the Mac is still exceptional, even if the price tag is too.
Everything Apple
Another reason you may want to hold off getting a Mac is that it heavily buys into the Apple Ecosystem, working perfectly with other apple products and devices. If you are someone who doesn’t have any of these devices and wanted to have a seamless experience across all your devices, then perhaps this isn’t the best choice for you.
Gaming
Finally, if you’re an avid gamer and want to play all of your favourite new video games on this computer, you may want to look elsewhere, as the Mac is very limiting in the catalogue of video games you can play. Although some games are compatible, the Mac was definitely not built for gaming in mind.
So, are you convinced that the Mac is right for you?
