Student Awards Show 2021- Motion Graphics
The Task
Painting Pixels were delighted to be contacted for the third year in a row by the Student Awards committee to work on a series of hold screens, motion graphics and small animations for their upcoming Student Radio Awards 2021!
The project included a variety of motion graphic videos of introductions for hosts, the nominations, winners and some extra bits on top, all relating to the awards.
The Background
The Student Radio Association (SRA) is an organisation which encourages more young people to become involved in the radio, music and audio sectors, they provide accessible opportunities and training. The award show has been running annually since 1995 and is supported by BBC Sound, Global and HITS Radio.
The SRA are there to celebrate student radio, nearly two hundred industry appointed judges attend and hundreds of student entries are put in that cover a dozen categories; they then whittle these down to bronze, silver and the overall winner, gold.
Hosted in the Indigo at the O2 arena in London, over two hundred students and two hundred industry guests including the biggest names in broadcast talent and management from many agencies and companies all around the UK attend for a glamous evening of food, drink and performance.
What Was Involved?
This project was very fun for all parties involved as it includes multiple elements combined into one!
- Motion Graphics
- 2D Animation
- Video Editing
These are all elements that were included within the project.
The Process
To begin this project, we needed a universal background for all aspects so they all looked integrated and together; it needed to be quite simple as the text was bold and needed to stand out, not clash. We decided to go with deep purple with balloons, ribbons and confetti occasionally popping up, you can see this in the various videos shown.
We then created the opener for the show, this needed to welcome the audience to the event, show who was leading the show and essentially just introduce the show to everyone.
Next up was the introduction for hosts Aimee Vivian and Dean Mccullough, this just needed to outline who they were, and who they worked for as they entered onto the stage.
It was finally time to create the animation for nominations, we created 18 short animations, showing the award and who was up to win! These all used the background previously mentioned and the same style throughout to again create the same theme and coordinate all videos.
Once the results were in, we created the results/ winner animations. Again, using the same background, we added the winner for each category. These were quite easy to complete as they were all short clips and required little change from each one.
All videos were created using Adobe After Effects which allows us to add in some of our own creative input but still stick to the client’s wishes.
All of these videos were required to fit in with the company’s initial theme, which we were able to achieve.
Finally, we got onto the class of 2022, this was to showcase many upcoming performers from a range of different genres. This was very fun to make as there was such a large range of genres and it foreshadows who we may be hearing this year-round.
The Results
Both us at Painting Pixels and the team over at Students Radio were extremely happy with the end result of the presentation, it fitted in with the theme desired, and it was very entertaining.
