2D Animation Comparison

Painting Pixels offers a fully bespoke 2D animation service. This is because we appreciate that every business has their own unique story to tell and that budget and timeframes also vary.

This means that our quotes also have to be bespoke, and are calculated on the level of complexity, runtime and working timeframe (deadline). However to develop a complex and bespoke quote it requires some upfront planning and sometimes for a script to already be in place for us to calculate our artists working-time and therefore cost. In some instances this can take a number of days or weeks to generate a quote.

But we understand that this type of work may be new to some organisations making it difficult to allocate a budget as you need to know what the rough costs are and what type of output you get for your budget.

Therefore we have created three categories showcasing different 2D animations which demonstrate various levels of complexity in animation and what you can roughly expect for a 3 minute animated production.

However please continue to keep in mind the bespoke nature of 2D production and also that it may not be obvious at first glance, the more subtle differences in a 3 minute production from an essential, standard to complex animation.

In most cases it’s based on complexity of assets, level of detail within a scene, use of particles systems, dynamic systems, physics systems, 3D cameras and use of parallax to name a few – oh and sound effects!

Please see the examples below and note that there are also levels before, in between and far more higher-end and sophisticated than even the complex level shown below. And then theres 3D motion graphics, which is a whole other level.

Essential

£3k per 3 minute production

*Roughly 2-3 weeks turnaround

Standard

£4.5k per 3 minute production

*Roughly 3-5 weeks turnaround

Complex

£6k per 3 minute production

*Roughly 6-8 weeks turnaround

*Note turnaround timeframes are based on production time only and not the script writing stage or any additions or changes.

Also note that we set the timeframe at 3 minutes as from that time point you get the best value for money and so every minute after 3 minutes is the divisible of the showcased price. However decreasing the time does not necessarily decrease by the same amount, but it does definitely decrease in cost.

Hopefully this will still help to give a slightly clearer idea and provide a baseline price point and required budgets and allocated timeframes.
