The Big Bear Cider Mill 3D Render
Background
The Big Bear Cider Mill is a local business, based in Essex, that grows and handcrafts their own apples into cider; their cider is naturally vegan and gluten-free and is made from 100% apple juice.
The Big Bear’s mission is to turn their passion for apples into quality cider, all year round. They plant the trees, pick the apples, press the apples and ferment their ciders, and this ensures maximum flavour. The juice is fermented using yeasts that are carefully chosen for their ability to bring out delicate aromas, a long, cool fermentation then allows the full cider characteristics to develop.
In 2015, when this business started, they brought a disused gravel pit and regenerated it into a thriving orchard, they love nature and do not support pesticides and support the natural widelefe to regulate their orchard.
The Task
Why did The Big Bear company come to Painting Pixels?
We have worked with them before on a complete 3D architectural Modelling and Render for planning purposes, where you can browse here! That project worked on the building from the ground up. This time around, they wanted some new changes to be added- 2021 Redux 3D Renders.
The Big Bear’s hoped for the current grass roof to be altered to a roof full of photovoltaic panels (solar panels), with views from the car park, the front and the side. And of course, we delivered what they wished.
Process
All projects start with an idea of what needs to be created, it’s the same with a 3D Render, once the idea has been created, the rest of the process flows.
After the idea, you have to create an asset, which essentially means creating a digital document, image, video or audio that can have multiple renditions. Once you have created an asset, the basic layer is done, from here on it’s about making it realistic.
Now it’s time to add texture, this is what makes a grey clay-like model life-like, with colour and layers to it. Compositing is the next step, this is where you make sure everything is in the right place and looks realistic; lighting is so important as it needs to be lit up the same way it would be in real life.
The next step is all about taking the images to render, therefore you set the camera to take different angles and shots. You then export images to post in photoshop to allow for colour correcting; finally you are done and have created the 3D Render.
Result
The final renders of the project were exported and the project is ready to be sent over to the clients!

Our team at Painting Pixels had so much fun working with our friends at The Big Bear Mill company again and we hope that the changes we made had a positive effect on the mill.
